Slow Cooked Applesauce (paleo, gluten free, sugar free)

Slow Cooked Applesauce  (paleo, gluten free, sugar free)

I LOVE the flavors of fall. Pumpkin, apple, cinnamon…yum. Just the
smell of apples cooking conjures up memories of mom’s apple nut cake,
stewed apples, and of course apple cobbler (I am from the south
afteral). I will be posting plenty of fall recipes featuring pumpkin,
but today let’s honor the simplicity of apples at their finest: apple
sauce. This one is paleo-friendly, sugar free, gluten free, and best
of all EASY.

If you read my posts I’m sure you have a slow-cooker by now. If not,
go get one! You will thank me this fall when you see some of the ways
you can use it to make your life easier and yummier! We use a pressure
cooker that has a slow cooker setting. Pressure cooking is another
simple – and healthy- way to prepare meals and sides.

Paleo Applesauce

– 12 organic sweet apples (I use honey crisp and/or gala)
– 2 Tbsp cinnamon
– 1 c water
– 1/2 tsp salt

Wash apples and peel (or don’t peel if you like the peels in your
applesauce). Core and slice (I use an apple corer to make it quicker).
Throw apples in slow cooker with water. Cook on low for 6 hours. After
6 hours smash apples with potato smasher and stir in cinnamon and
salt. If you like it sweeter, add honey. If you like it less chunky,

Serve hot, or cold. Japheth likes to eat it over warmed sweet
potatoes. I like eating it with whipped coconut cream. The kids love
it cold! What’s your favorite way to eat homemade apple sauce?
